Ho Burlington Northern in Washington

My Dad and I have been building our Burlington Northern model railway based in Washington in the late 70's to early 80's for around the last 3 years.

The main line runs from Vancouver and Portland (staging) to Seattle then up to Ferndale.  The layout originally measured 8'x16', but after the construction of a wall to give us our own model railway room seperate from the rest of the basement, we were able 2 add staging down one wall and expand the layouts size to 11.5'x18'.

Currently all track is has been put down, however the ferndale yard is in the process of being rebulit as a much larger yard which will have it's own operator during operating sessions.  At the moment the layout is powered by a single walk around DC throttle but more are on the way and DCC is also being considered for later in the future.

Ther are around 100 cars on the layout at the moment  with around 14 locos.  Motive power includes Proto 2000 GP9s and GP30s aswell as Athearn RTR GP40s a GP35 and a F7 A&B set.  Older Athearn Blue box locos include an SW1500, SW7, GP40s, a GP50, an SD45 and a U30C.  The rollingstock include walthers, athearn blue box and rtr, accurail, roundhouse and bachman silver series.

The layout will be able to accomodate up to 6 operators and it is hoped opearting sessions will be able to last around 3 hours.  The layout will be operated using a car card system which is currently being developed.
